Feds are back at Walton Hall Park this Thursday 27th August at 7.45pm, as we face Chorley Women FC in our first FA WNL Cup fixture.
The FA Women’s National League Cup has had a bit of a makeover in recent seasons, so if you’re wondering why we’re starting this Cup campaign with a group stage rather than a straight knockout tie, you won’t be alone. The current format begins with 88 teams split into 22 groups of four, with each team playing three group-stage matches. Last season the FA introduced the Professional Game Academy (PGA) sides into the competition for the first time, which is why you may have spotted LFCW in our group.
From there, the competition splits in two. The 22 group winners automatically progress to the FA WNL Cup knockout stages, joined by the ten best runners-up across the groups. The remaining 12 runners-up and the 20 best third-placed teams move into the FA WNL Plate. That creates two 32-team knockout competitions, which both follow a traditional knockout route through four rounds before their respective finals.
Last season, Feds progressed through the group stage, topping the group before beating Leafield Athletic 6–1 in the first knockout round. Our run came to an end in the second round, losing 2–1 to Middlesbrough after extra time.
This season, we’re in Group Q alongside AFC Fylde, Chorley and Liverpool FC PGA.
The journey starts this Thursday at home against Chorley, so make sure you’re there to get behind the team and help Feds get their Cup campaign off to the best possible start.

We’ll have our Feds Favourites playlist to get you pumped up and our announcers will keep you updated with team news and a countdown to kick-off. We are a friendly bunch, so if there’s anything you need there are volunteers on-hand to assist you.

THE OPPOSITION – Chorley Women FC
Chorley Women FC have a long and proud history in the women’s game, with their roots dating back to 1978 and the club adopting the Chorley Ladies name in 1983. They have continued to build steadily through the women’s football pyramid and now compete in FA Women’s National League Division One North.
Last season was one of the strongest in the club’s recent history. Chorley recorded their best points tally in Tier 4 since 2013/14 and their highest finish since 2015/16, while also scoring more league goals than in any season since 2016/17. They ended the campaign with eight wins, six draws and eight defeats from their 22 league matches.
There is also a new face in the dugout this season, with Alex Brito Nogueira appointed as First Team Manager in June. Alex arrives with experience across the women’s and youth game, including coaching and development roles with Aston Villa, Everton, Doncaster Belles, Lincoln Women, Lichfield Women and Tamworth Women, as well as experience in scouting, analysis and international football. He has made it clear that high standards, accountability and a desire to improve will be central to his approach.
On the pitch, striker Molly Wood is one to watch. Wood finished last season as Chorley’s leading league goalscorer. Captain Megan Searson will also provide plenty of experience, having reached 150 appearances for the club during the 2025/26 campaign.
A new chapter is also beginning off the pitch at Chorley, with England and Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone MBE joining the club as Creative and Strategic Advisor this summer. Toone will support the club’s long-term growth through community engagement, player development, creative storytelling and strategic partnerships, working alongside Chorley’s existing leadership. It marks an interesting development for a club with such a long history in the women’s game and adds another dimension to their 2026/27 season.

Accessibility – Wheelchair accessible, with a low-incline ramp taking you from the entrance to pitch side. Accessible toilet facilities are available.
Seating – 500 unreserved seats are available, unreserved standing is also available (capacity of the ground is approx. 2,200)
General atmosphere – very friendly, volunteers are on-hand for assistance and information, music is played through speakers in the stand pre-match, match-day announcements will keep you in the know with squad news.
We really like dogs. Dogs are very welcome and do not require a ticket 🙂
