Following an action-packed visit to Peterborough last weekend, we head to Hull City this Sunday 30th August at 2pm for our third fixture in the FA WNL Northern Premier Division.

Feds’ last league outing was a dramatic one at Peterborough, where we eventually fell to a 3–2 defeat. After going 2–0 down, the game took another turn when Feds were reduced to ten players. Second half, a penalty decision then added to the frustration. Despite being a player down, Feds refused to sit back, continuing to take the game to Peterborough and create opportunities, with Chantelle Thompson hitting the crossbar before Peterborough extended their lead to 3–0.

But Feds weren’t done yet. Two goals pulled us back to 3–2, courtesy of Maddie Bouggess and Jess Brady, and suddenly a comeback looked very much on the cards. We pushed right to the end, but time ran out before we could find the equaliser. A frustrating afternoon, but plenty of fight and character from a Feds side who refused to give up.

Henna Butcher was named Player of the Match for her relentless work leading the line and helping keep Feds in the fight.

With the season still in its early stages, Feds head to Hull looking to build on the opening weeks of their league campaign. There have already been plenty of twists and turns, not to mention a few worldies along the way, but the response at Peterborough showed the character within this squad. Sunday gives us another opportunity to put that determination into action and keep ourselves moving in the right direction.

THE OPPOSITION – HULL CITY LADIES

Hull City Ladies come into Sunday’s fixture with one win and one defeat from their opening two league matches. They began with a 3–2 victory away at Loughborough Lightning, coming from behind to take the points, before a 2–0 home defeat against Norwich City last weekend. 

There has been a change in the dugout this summer, with Joel Drewery appointed as First Team Manager in July. Drewery has previously worked within Hull’s first-team coaching setup and stepped into the permanent role following a spell as interim manager. The club has also continued to develop its pathway between the youth and senior sides, including through its partnership with Bishop Burton College.

Feds will need to keep an eye on Sophie Haywood, a Hull-born forward with experience across the women’s game. Haywood has previously played for Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Newcastle United, as well as being part of Nottingham Forest’s double-winning side before returning to her home city. Captain Helen Lynskey is another experienced presence in the squad, having returned to Hull from Barnsley WFC earlier this year after previously making more than 100 appearances for the club.

Feds and Hull City Ladies are no strangers to each other, having both competed in the Northern Premier Division for several seasons. Feds took all three points on both occasions last season, winning 3–1 away at Hull in September before a 4–1 victory at Walton Hall Park in January. Sunday gives Feds another opportunity to put their football into practice and continue building on what we’ve seen so far. We’ll be heading to Hull looking forward to another afternoon on the road and another chance to keep the season moving forward.

Parking: A small public car park is available on Grange Lane, with the primary school car park on Church Road also available. On-street parking is available nearby, but supporters are asked to park considerately. There is additional parking at the foreshore, around a 10-15 minute walk from the ground.

Train: Ferriby railway station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the ground, with services linking to Hull, Doncaster and York.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is North Ferriby High Street, around a two-minute walk from the ground. It is served by routes 55, 55A, 150 and 929.

Food and drink: The clubhouse serves drinks, with hot and cold food available from Grubbs Chuck Wagon.
