We head to AFC Fylde for our second group stage match in the FA Women’s National League Cup this Sunday 6th September, with kick-off at 2pm.

Our first outing in the cup last week at Walton Hall Park was against Chorley, with Feds leading 4-0 when the match was abandoned in the 78th minute due to the incoming thunderstorm.

Those in attendance had already witnessed a brilliant team performance, with Maddy Duffy opening the scoring just a minute in after being set up beautifully by Emma Johnson and Georgia Walters. More chances followed, alongside a big chance for Chorley which was dealt with by Johnson, before Walters added a brace before half-time. Her second was a brilliant strike from 20 yards, assisted by Duffy.

More chances followed in the second half, with Maddie Bouggess coming close on a number of occasions, before Henna Butcher made it four in the 74th minute. It was a superb team performance from Feds, who looked capable of adding to the scoreline before the match was brought to an early end. Player of the Match was awarded to Georgia Walters.

As we waited for the referee to make the final call, DJ Abby did her bit for the occasion, running through a suitably chaotic selection of thunder and lightning-themed songs as the storm rolled in.

We now await the official decision on the outcome of the game and will, of course, keep you updated when that decision is made.

For now, though, our attention turns to Sunday and AFC Fylde as we look to continue our cup campaign.

THE OPPOSITION – AFC FYLDE

AFC Fylde come into Sunday’s fixture having made a strong start to life back in the FA Women’s National League Division One North. Fylde had been relegated from Division One North at the end of the 2024/25 season, but bounced straight back at the first opportunity, winning the regional league to return to Tier 4. They have won both of their opening league matches this season, beating Halifax 3–1 before a 2–1 victory away at York City.

Fylde’s first FA WNL Cup fixture saw them beat Liverpool PGA 3–2 at Kellamergh Park last Thursday, with Cheryl Foster scoring the winner late on.

There has been plenty of movement in the Fylde squad over the summer as they have prepared for their return to Tier 4, including several arrivals with experience at a higher level. One familiar face for Feds supporters is Chelsey Jukes, who joined Fylde after four seasons with Feds. Forward Kenzie Bentley is another summer arrival, joining from Cheadle Town Stingers after being named their Supporters’ Player of the Season last year. Bentley scored seven goals during her time at Cheadle and has already opened her Fylde account in the league this season.

Fylde also retain plenty of the side which helped them to promotion last season, including forward Lois Moore, who scored 27 goals last campaign, as well as Molly Kelly and Hollie Kelsh-Ridge, who also reached double figures. New signing Ciara Boylan has made an early impact too, scoring in the 3–1 league win over Halifax. The squad is therefore a mix of players who know the division and those who have been brought in to add experience and competition for places.

Sunday brings a different challenge, with both sides looking to build on their opening cup fixtures and put themselves in a good position in the group.

Parking: Parking is available at Kellamergh Park, with the car park located behind the main stand. Spaces can be limited, so supporters are advised to arrive early. Access to the ground is via the Birley Arms pub car park on Bryning Lane.

Train: The nearest railway station is Kirkham & Wesham, approximately four miles from the ground. A taxi from the station is recommended.

Bus: There are bus stops in Warton village, around a 15–20 minute walk from the ground. Kellamergh Park is in a rural location, so supporters are advised to check the return service times before travelling.

Food and drink: Kellamergh Park has a snack bar and bar facilities.

Accessibility: The ground has covered seating and terracing. Supporters with specific accessibility requirements are advised to contact AFC Fylde ahead of the match.
