Head coach Leanne Duffy made 1 change after the defeat away at top of the table Rugby last week. Ellie Jones was recalled into the starting XI, with Isobel Binks dropping to the bench.
The Feds were beaten 3-0 against Stoke City at Walton Hall Park with clinical finishing ultimately being the difference between the two sides.
The Potters had a lively opening to the game, taking just 3 minutes to find their opener. An inch-perfect through ball from Olivia Edwards set Delphi Cole through on goal and despite pressure from back-tracking defenders, a burst of pace down the left wing allowed Cole to get away and nestle her left footed shot into the bottom right of the goal, hitting the inside of the post as it went in.
Unfortunately for the Feds, things only got worse in the opening quarter of an hour. Stoke City winger Shannon Stamps caused lots of danger for the Feds on the Stoke City right wing, winning a corner. The resulting corner was taken by Roisin Kivel, which found an unmarked Olivia Edwards at the back post where the attacking midfielder calmly guided her header past McAloon in goal.
Liverpool Feds began to grow into the game slightly towards the end of the half with Jessica Brady providing a bit of spark, however the Stoke defence put in an impressively strong performance resulting in the Feds rarely testing Crosbie in the Potters’ goal. On the other hand, Stoke City’s attacking threat proved too much for the Feds to deal with in the opening 45.
With Liverpool Feds looking for a lifeline to get back into the game, the start of the second half was always going to be entertaining. Within 10 minutes of the restart Jess Brady had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back for the hosts, however brave goalkeeping from the Stoke City goalkeeper denied her.
Despite efforts fired wide of the target from Stoke’s Cole and Kivel, the Feds came out the more dominant of the two teams in the second half and another golden opportunity arose for the hosts in the 66th minute. A precise through ball from Walters meant Butcher only had the keeper to beat after running past the last defender, but unluckily for her, her attempt smashed the underside of the crossbar and bounced out, just centimetres from crossing the goal line.
The Feds kept battling, yet any hope of a comeback was extinguished when the Potters added a third in the 76th minute through the tricky winger Roisin Kivel, as she rounded off her magnificent display with a goal. Her ambitious right-footed chip from the left wing looped over McAloon and extended the lead for the visitors.
A late attempt from Jones was saved by Crosbie, securing her all-important clean sheet. Shortly after, the referee blew the full-time whistle, and the visitors won three goals to nil.
