Feds showcase team’s chemistry after a dominant back-to-back 2-0 League win against Stourbridge.

Feds started off aggressively with the first scent of goal coming just after two minutes of play. The first attempt came from Anderson after brilliant one touch football amongst five Feds players, but it finished just wide.

Shortly afterwards the hosts made themselves dangerous again as Fletcher delivered a brilliant set piece. Four players were flying in and it just needed a toe to turn it goalward, but it evaded all and went to safety.

The pressing and composure of the home side eventually paid off, as they took the lead after 10 minutes into the game and it was another Fletcher delivery following a Johnson clip down the line. Fletcher did brilliantly to keep the ball in play before cutting inside and delivering a deep cross and Willis was at the back post nodding it in.

As halftime approached, the hosts came so close to doubling their lead, A late strike from Boydell, as she was released on the left by Anderson, went straight into the keeper’s chest and left Feds with just a 1-0 lead at the break.

The second half showcased again the Feds’ dominance, with Donoghue charging down the keeper. The ball cannoned off her but backed off the keeper and then to safety.

The home side almost discovered a way to goal after Donoghue did well down the right and cut it back. However, after Willis and the Stourbridge keeper collided, the ref gave the free kick the away team’s way. Some more great hold up play by Donoghue saw her produce a nice flick round the corner which fell into the path of Boydell who let fly finishing just over the bar.

The hosts kept threatening the away outfit, as a quick break from Feds released Fletcher on the right. Her early delivery was turned goalward by Francis, but it was the wrong side of the post. Immediately afterwards Francis was through 1v1, but the bouncing ball allowed a covering defender to get across. However, soon later Francis was through again and it took a huge save from the away keeper to keep the score line at one.

In the closing stage of the game, Feds were awarded a penalty, as Fletcher was taken down in the box. Willis stepped up and placed the ball low and hard, sending the keeper the wrong way and handling the hosts a 2-0 lead.

The last moments of the clash were threatening occasions from the home side. First, it took another great save from the Stourbridge keeper to thwart Francis who looked to bend it around her and afterwards, Cole tried her luck from distance, but the attempt finished wide.

After another successful clash at Jericho Lane, Feds will travel to Nottingham Forrest for their next league fixture next Sunday.
