After a fantastic start to our season, we head to newcomers Peterborough United this Sunday 23rd August, with kick-off at 2pm.
For everyone who joined us on Sunday for our season opener against Derby County, a huge thank you for your support. The team absolutely felt it and responded in style with a 5-1 victory!
It was Georgia Walters who got the party started, producing an early contender for goal of the season with an absolute rocket to give Feds the lead. Derby found an equaliser before half-time, but there was no stopping Feds in the second half.
Emma Johnson restored our lead before further goals from Jess Brady and Seren Carrington put the game firmly in our hands. Then, in the 85th minute, newcomer Maddie Bouggess was introduced for her first minutes in a Feds shirt. She couldn’t have wished for a better debut, adding our fifth goal in injury time to round off a brilliant afternoon.
It was a fantastic team performance, with so many of our new signings making an immediate impact alongside our established squad.
Player of the Match went to newcomer Erin Caldecott for an outstanding defensive performance, a hugely impressive Feds debut.
This weekend, we head to Peterborough on a high to face a newly promoted side who will be eager to gain 3 points for their first home match of the season.
THE OPPOSITION – PETERBOROUGH UNITED AKA ‘THE POSH WOMEN’
Peterborough United Women suffered a harsh reality check in their Tier 3 debut last weekend, falling to a heavy 5-0 defeat away against an established Rugby Borough side on opening day. Coming off an extraordinary, undefeated promotion campaign, manager Jake Poole and his squad quickly learned the uncompromising nature of the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Posh will be looking to bounce back instantly, aiming to iron out their defensive discipline as they adjust to the increased physical demands and faster tactical pace of this higher division.
To bridge that division gap, the club has been highly active in the summer transfer window, introducing several notable new signings. Among the fresh faces is 18-year-old midfielder Romy Saunders, a box-to-box talent recruited from the Leicester City Academy to provide energy and composure in the middle of the pitch. The Posh also secured the services of former Loughborough Lightning midfielder Alice Higginbottom, who adds proven league experience and tactical work ethic, alongside highly regarded Scottish youth international Brodie Greenwood, an exciting Under-23 midfielder signed from Aberdeen who adds immense top-flight pedigree to their technical depth.
Feds need to keep a close eye on forward Poppie Brown, who entered the campaign in scorching form after netting a brilliant second-half hat-trick in their final pre-season friendly win against Tottenham Hotspur PGA. Alongside her, veteran attacking threat Jess Driscoll remains a critical creative outlet, recently committing her future to the club after proving vital to last year’s historic title run. Defensively, club captain and centre-back Niamh Connor will anchor the backline; she will be highly motivated to rally her side and prove that the opening weekend’s heavy defeat was merely a forgettable stumble on their new journey.
This upcoming fixture represents completely uncharted territory, as Peterborough United Women and Liverpool Feds have never faced each other in a competitive match. While the Feds are seasoned veterans of this league, the Posh are exploring these heights for the first time, meaning Sunday’s game at PIMS Park will officially write the very first chapter of their head-to-head history.
