FIXTURE PREVIEW: LIVERPOOL FEDS v STOKE CITY (HOME)

We’re back at Walton Hall Park this Sunday 11th October at 2pm for our next league outing against Stoke City.

Last weekend saw us beaten 3-0 by Rugby Borough, who have now moved to the top of the table on 15 points and looking like early promotion contenders. It was a tough first half for the Feds, with Rugby putting our defence under sustained pressure and taking a 2-0 lead into the break.

McAloon was called into action in the 23rd minute, producing a brilliant one-handed save to tip an effort over the bar, while Carrington made a huge block shortly before Rugby doubled their advantage. For the Feds, chances were harder to come by, although Butcher’s battling helped win our first corner and Smith’s delivery caused a brief moment of danger.

The Feds came out much stronger after the break and put Rugby under plenty of pressure, forcing rushed clearances and looking much more threatening in possession. Butcher went particularly close when her cross took a huge deflection, looped over the goalkeeper and bounced back off the post.

Rugby eventually added a third in the 67th minute, but the Feds continued to push, with Smith winning another corner which eventually fell to Thompson in the box, while a good move between Butcher and Andrews created another opportunity late on, with Brady getting to the near-post cross but unable to find the target.

It wasn’t the result we wanted, but there was plenty to take from the second-half response against a side now sitting top of the league. The Feds currently sit fifth on nine points, with Stoke just two points ahead of us in fourth on 11, so there’s plenty at stake when the two sides meet on Sunday.

After last weekend’s trip to Rugby, we’re back at Walton Hall Park and will be looking to put on a performance in front of the home crowd. with the WSL paused for the international break, we look forward to welcoming a few extras through the turnstiles to get behind the team.

THE OPPOSITION – Stoke City

Stoke City Women arrive at Walton Hall Park sitting fourth in the table on 11 points, two places and two points ahead of the Feds. The Potters have been steadily climbing the women’s football pyramid since the team was formed in 2001, reaching the FA Women’s National League North in 2013 after winning the Midlands Women’s Combination League.

They have also built up quite a record in the Staffordshire County Ladies Challenge Cup, lifting the trophy 16 times, including most recently in 2025. Stoke reached the FA Women’s National League Cup final in 2020, although the final was ultimately unable to take place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club moved to semi-professional status in 2023 following significant investment from its ownership, with that backing aimed not only at success for the first team but at encouraging more girls across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire to get involved in football.

There have been signs of that continued progress on the pitch too. Stoke reached the Fourth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last season, their best run in five years, while wins over Wolves, Barnsley, Liverpool Feds, Burnley and Plymouth Argyle saw them reach the FA Women’s National League Cup for only the second time.

Following the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Sarah Richardson was appointed as Head Coach, with the club also outlining plans for a new Elite Girls’ Academy designed to put local talent at the heart of its long-term women’s and girls’ football strategy.

The Potters are captained by Olivia Cook, who will lead a Stoke side that comes into Sunday’s game just two points above the Feds. With both teams currently sitting in the top five, there’s plenty to make this another interesting one at Walton Hall Park.
