Feds back to winning ways after a 2-0 victory against Hull City despite being denied a number of times by the woodwork

The home side immediately imposed themselves with a great chance for Thompson, following a corner won by Cole after charging down the left. Boydell’s delivery was palmed in the air by the keeper and Thompsons follow up header hit the woodwork.

The hosts again sought the lead shortly afterwards with Donoghue and Francis combining to win the ball back. Francis’ pull back to Fletcher allowed her to strike across the keeper but the attempt finished just wide.

The crossbar kept being a major protagonist of the first part of the half, as the guests hit it as well. Feds then went right up the other end on the counter and Francis’ attempt wasn’t enough to hand the lead to the home outfit.

Another scent of goal for the Feds was denied by the post after a ping pong situation in the box as a corner was never really cleared. The final strike came from Donoghue, but it rattled off the post.

Liverpool Feds almost discovered a way to goal after Thompson won the ball back in midfield and released Francis on the right, who drove into the box and shot. The attempt was spilled to Anderson who couldn’t keep her shot down.

Shortly afterwards another chance for the hosts came from a Boydell corner, with Johnson’s back post header that finished over, leaving the encounter still goalless.

However, as the break was approaching, Boydell’s set pieces finally paid off. A corner was half cleared by the visitor’s defence and Johnson took her chance to touch and bury it past the keeper, giving Feds a narrow lead at half-time.

At the start of the second half the hosts repeated themselves as the first chance of the half fell to Donoghue. Cole found her on the pull back, but it didn’t trouble the keeper. Immediately after, however, Anderson was found on the right, she cut inside and curled a delightful strike high across the keeper, sealing the deal for the Feds.

Anderson made herself Hull’s enemy again with two precious chances as she first unleashed a rocket towards goal, but the Hull keeper was able to pull off a great save. Then, after Francis pulled back to her, she placed one back across goal hitting the post.

In the closing stages of the game Feds kept piling on the pressure with wave after wave of attack, with the last chance falling to Francis as she nearly grabbed the third.

After finding again their winning ways, Liverpool Feds will travel to Stoke City on the 2nd March.
