Feds Through to the FA Cup 2nd Round with 7-2 Away Win

Liverpool Feds progressed in the FA Cup, coming from behind after an early scare in their clash against Thornaby FC at Teesdale Park.

The hosts started off strong scoring their opener after just one minute of play with Izzy McEwan and then doubling the lead with Daisy Swash driving the ball in the bottom corner.

Despite the rocky start, Feds controlled the possession and started pressuring the home side with Carrington coming close to scoring with a header from a well taken corner took by Lawrence.

The visitors kept improving their performance calling the Thornaby keeper into action with a save denying Anderson, as she followed up a Lawrence strike. After 25 minutes, Johnson closed the gap with a great header following a corner took by Smith.

Feds drew level first with a penalty from Donoghue, who dispatched it calmly after Kinvig-Wardale got dragged down in the box and then took the lead as half-time approached, courtesy of Smith. Johnson drove out of defence and rocketed one against the crossbar. Parry and Smith were there following up and it was Smith that forced the ball across the line.

After an early scare in the opening stage of the match Feds increased their lead after ten minutes into the second half, Lawrence down the right delivered a great ball to Collins who dealt with an awkward bounce and finished past the keeper.

Shortly afterwards, Kinvig-Wardale drove forward and found Donoghue. An unbelievable first touch past the outstretched defender allowed her to fire past the keeper with her second from the edge of the area, scoring the fifth goal for the away side.

Feds kept managing the game and creating chances with Anderson going the closest in the 89th minute of play.

In the closing stages of the game the visitors added two to the score line first with Deering that, with some delightful footwork around 3 players, fired it past the Thornaby keeper to score her first goal for Feds. Then Cole sealed the deal with a penalty smashing it into the roof of the net.

Liverpool Feds now turn their attention to their league campaign with the next fixture at home against Wolverhampton next Sunday at Jericho Lane, 2pm kick off.
